Modestly enlarged image can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (from Tuesday; but, as I just commented there, it’s Anker not Ankers).Fortune Teller is privately owned (different coloration, click-to-enlarge image, found at the auction record). The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated German Wikipedia page has more, including a list of paintings) and collection (more under Subcategories).Fifth, of the 6 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.P.S. My best friend from graduate school passed away earlier this month. I was Best Man at his wedding in 1974, and we did a lot of stuff together, before graduating in 1976; seeing each other, only a handful of times since, the last time in the late 1990’s.His wife called me January 6 to tell me Tom had died, would be cremated, and no services were planned. We spoke for quite awhile, and I started looking for obituaries a couple days later. Couldn’t find any.Every year I got a Christmas card from them, but the 2009 envelope had Sheila where Tom’s name used to be. The card was still signed Tom though. I sent an e-mail asking who Sheila was; but never got a response. Since the 2010-2013 cards all had Tom again in the address label, I figured the earlier label was just a practical joke.Tom’s employer has a memorial page where obituaries are published. So in addition to searching, I would go there. Today I saw why I couldn’t find it. She died as Sheila, and from publications I can find by her, has had that name since at least 2006.I’m not sure how I should react, am dumbfounded why they wouldn’t tell me (it isn’t 1950 anymore). So I may be a bit off my game for awhile. Why does my life have to be so complicated?
