It sounds to me like Brutus needs to get off the chair in front of the TV and give Wilber some training in batting. Even though soccer is my game, I know a thing or two about baseball hitting technique. Young batters often need to learn to choke up the bat to make better hits.
Time for some Father/Son time at the old batting cage, assuming they still have some of those things around. Also, some field work with the boy at the neighborhood park would help him improve those skills also, but more importantly though, those memories you have will last a lifetime. My Dad only did it a few times with me and my brothers but those memories are priceless…..
We had summer softball teams when I was living in Highland, Indiana in the early 1970’s. Each elementary school had a team (girls, of course). I was an infield player all three summers I played. I was a lefty, and did not consider myself to be a good hitter, although I did manage to hit line-drives or grounders to Right many times. The Star of the team was Leslie, she was the lead pitcher and hit homers. I never hit homers. I had poor self esteem due to my family situation. The second summer, we had an assistant coach who did “stats”. He called me over and said Leslie and I were tied for the best RBIs on the team. I was shocked- I did not believe I could ever, ever be as good as Leslie! It was a very, very valuable crack in the negative view I had of myself. Neither of my parents ever came to my games. My third year, I was a first base player, a respected team member, and I made a remarkable triple play!

When I was a young kid the only batter I knew was the left over scrapings in the bottom of mom’s mixing bowl.

My high school football coach labeled me as a triple threat. I could stumble, fumble or fall down.

You are right about Ramirez Brutus, too bad the Guardians don’t have seven more like him, and of course some pitching would help too.
