I saw my ex wife in an antique show once. Calm down, she’s younger than I am. ;-)

Oh, God. Are things that were around when I was born antiques now? Oh no! Am I an antique?!?!?!?

perhaps the trash can was actually a time machine. :D

If only we knew ahead of time which things to hold onto for future appreciation.

Now the question for Uncle Ted and Brutus, is although the armoire might be on the Antiques Roadshow, what is it valued at?

Things have a way of doing that. I have my grandparents’ china cabinet, some of the contents, and both bedroom dressers.

I often fear that the antiques I have from my grandparents home, the ones that noone will take, will end up being worth thousands. Maybe if they were worth thousands than some of the younger family members might want them.

I believe it. My family had a very old kitchen cabinet in our cabin, which my father had inherited from his mother, it had a built in flour sifter and a metal counter top. We saw an identical item in the window of a huge Antique Mall with a price tag of $5,000. My father went in talked to the owner and sold him the one in our cabin for $2,500.

I knew I shouldn’t have busted up that chiffarobe.

Uncle Ted continues, “it was made of press-board, real junk, but that’s what we’re seeing on the show now, junk, stuff people think are valuable”…

Question? Is Uncle Ted, Brutus’ uncle or uncle to Wilberforce, ie Brutus’ brother or Gladys brother? Help me out here, please…

Antiques is another fetish I really don’t understand.

Put Momma Gargle on the show to see what you can fetch for her. Likely it will confirm what you know already, she ain’t worth (censored).

Probably would fetch quite a price “at auction” as they say. My wife never misses that show. I keep telling her to let me know if I show up as one of the antiques they appraise!

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The trick is to recognize the difference.

The monetary value of it now likely would not add up to the losses while keeping it for fifty years.

Got my great Grandma’s iron bed – circa 1865. Weighs a ton. Priceless to me. Lot of my Grandfolks stuff. After me – All will be sold and trashed.

back in tokyo i knew some folks who got most of their furniture from “junk” that had been left out on the sidewalk for the trash collectors…

I am still waiting for the 25 cent item I found at a yard sale to turn out to be worth $10,000 on the Antiques Roadshow. Hasn’t happened yet, but my wife and I still enjoy yard sales, thrift stores and antique stores.
