No way. Here there is a public all-news channel (RAI News 24) and every half an hour they repeat the same news and often, at night, launch the morning interviews and reports.

The evening news has the house fires from burning dinner and the car accidents and road rage. The morning news has shootings from drug deals going bad at 2 a.m.

I’m up too early to go go to bed that late. Morning Joe gives me everything that happened the day and night before and breaking news of the morning – especially the political and legal news.

Don’t bother with the news Brutus. To paraphrase a line from the movie Network, “They aren’t in the NEWS business, they’re in the BOREDOM KILLING business!”

It’s a tape. Reruns every half hour. Also the same commercials. All filtered and conforms to the same plot script. Always near the end some misleading cliff hanger just prior to a long ad and then the let down story followed by another long ad and the finally a “feel good” story about a dog (cat, boy, girl) that got well ( found way home, sells lemonade, wins crapshoot) and lived another day.

But the weather lady is lookin’ good!

Well, in our area, most folks have been glued to their TV’s to keep up on the the movements of Hurricane Idalia. She’s about through with SC and NC and heading out to sea.

This would make an idea for TV executives; what about making a 24 hour news station? They could have the slogan, ‘All the news, all the time!’

Then you don’t have to wait the 5 hours between 6 and 11.

This is how most of us got sucked into watching those 24-hour news stations and streamers with some of us forming an actual addiction. I was fortunate to have grandkids to distract me into playing with them and watching shows like Bluey and Little Bear. I’ve even learned a few things like Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. I was informed that I had to go with them to the movie. Preparation is key to everything.

Nothing happened. Nothing you need take action over. Nothing you can do anything about today. Very little of it affects you in any way. And considering half the things it reports on, it’s just an open sewer you’ve placed in your living room. Ten minutes, once a week, would be plenty. Bad for you.

National network & cable each have to give their take on the top 2-3 stories, then have someone else talk about the same thing they’ve been talking about for years. Foreign & local give better news.

He’s correct. I like to check the headlines myself to keep informed of news events even though I can’t change anything. In this ever changing world, it’s almost a duty to keep informed.Hurrah for you my friend….

By the time it’s on tv it is old news. I’ll take from this that Brutus isn’t a slave to a smartphone which tells you everything that happens within two minutes of occurrence. And my respect for Brutus has grown even more!

All the news is pre taped and ready to go by the end of the working day (in the time zone of the head office) and run at local time 6 and 11. New stuff will need to wait till tomorrow.. at best.

I don’t have the patience to watch a news show. I will read it on my phone so I can read what interests me and skip the rest, unless it’s important even if not interesting. All the commercials, the “what we are going to tell you” comments, the “we are telling you now comments,” and then the “we just told you this” comments, plus all the things that I don’t need to see or care at all about – I will read it. No TV news on in my house. Sometimes I read it on my computer. For this, I do kind of miss the newspapers, plus they had all of the comics and it was easy to just skip over the ones I didn’t like very much. Plus things like crossword puzzles. Easy to skip if not interested, fun if interested. Try that, TV news!

That was my family when I was growing up. If it wasn’t TV news it was radio news, but either way, there was news blaring 24/7. And that’s why the only way I get the news now is in forms that I can READ. Had enough of the incessant drone of anchormen to last a lifetime.

news seems to be more about opinions and less about facts. just like schools no longer teach kids to think and reason things out the news just wants to tell you what they want you to believe. There are no more Walter Cronkites out there.
