I remember, like it was yesterday, the national trauma that erupted when Scully was hauled before the House Committee on Unnatural Acts and forced to explain why all the creatures in his comics (even the snake!) have opposable thumbs, earning the ire of creationists and evolutionary and biological scientists both.

Scully’s withering response of “Hey, all you cats gotta chill. It’s like a comic, man, you know? I mean, the bug dances and talks, too, you know, man?” still echo through that august hall even today.
