Wouldn’t it be truly awful if we could see the future? Just think about it: You would concentrate on the bad and lose the ability to enjoy the good. Not something I would wish for at all.
Sorry, but this is one of my pet peeves. Post traumatic stress is common and exhibits itself most often as fear, nervousness, and sometimes nightmares after a life threatening event. Post traumatic stress Disorder is very different though the symptoms overlap. Most disabling (in my experience as a counselor) is a long term (>6 months) general hyper arousal. Imagine seemingly insignificant events (like a passing siren) putting you back into that same state of fear and shock that you had at the triggering event. Its like living in a perpetual adrenaline rush. PTS is far more common and less severe that PTSD. PTS can be a significant life-altering condition, but PTSD is devastating in far too many cases.

Think she’s got it bad? What about the poor shrink? He’s got to make sure he’s thinking nice thoughts for the whole session.

Knowing what goes through my mind everyday, I am glad I haven’t met a mind reader.

Don’t listen to her doc. She can’t really read minds. She’s faking it.
