Cats are very perceptive and good judge of character.

Nicely shaped thought bubble. Pure coincidence, right, Lennie?

When my wife and I were first dating, both of my cats approved of her as soon as they met her

My female cat didn’t like anyone but me until my wife, towards the end for her I think she was closer to my wife than to me

My first girlfriend had a Siamese cat that didn’t like me at first. After some time the cat finally realized that I was allergic to cats. At that point he would come sit on my chest as I waited in the recliner for her to get ready. The cat would look at me as if he was saying “Breathe and suffer.” I don’t know if the cat ever learned that my allergy was only a temporary one until I get used to each cat in question. It’s a sad joke that I love cats, but my sinuses are adversely effected by each new cat I encounter.

Lennie, I’m guessing that that was your only date with that lady. Right? Did ginger do that to all your dates?

Back when I was single, I had a small calico cat, Micki, that had an uncanny sense about people. She basically didn’t care for people but if she was just indifferent about you when you came to the house, she would check you out then go off in a corner and nap. Mind you, she would always stay in the same room as me. If she didn’t like you, she would sit at your feet, glare at you for a few moments, stand up, turn her back to you, stick her tail straight up in the air and stalk off. I soon learned that when she exhibited that behavior, there was a good reason for it so when guys would ask me out, I would tell them that I could only go out with them if my cat approved. Since I wasn’t looking for a relationship and certainly didn’t “need” a man in my life, it was a great way of getting rid of unwanted suitors. My husband, however, came over and Micki jumped on his lap and went to sleep the first time she met him. She knew a keeper when she met one!
