History books are boring. They paint a well varnished picture of progress, national identity, statesmen behaving appropriately, etc. with most of the nasty, crusty bits brushed off. I like the rawer stuff like old diaries, government reports on internal scandals, and old monthlies.

Is it paranoid to think that the Ungoverned don’t want us to know any history anyhow, true or feigned?

I often wonder why I bother to comment on GoComics sometimes.

    It’s not really fun anymore.

But now that WE are all here, they can quit writing the History Books! We are, after all, the culmination of History! We are the reason all those people in ancient Grease and Egyptia and those places ever lived is so that, someday, WE would be born! Right? Anybody? Kanye, sit down. Anybody else?

First, I thought Toby and his girlfriend didn’t appreciate their ancestor’s choices for spouses and the number of children they decided to have. Where would they be, if not for their ancestors? And don’t they appreciate the inventions, like photography or the printing press? Don’t they appreciate indoor plumbing? They should be glad that others bothered to invent.

I received a birthday card from my brother many years ago that said “Just think, for thousands of years our ancestors have been fruitful and multiplied just to produce YOU.” Open the card and read “Either that, or they just liked to be fruitful and multiply.”

History is not nearly so meaningful as economics. Perhaps a generation schooled in the study of “unanticipated consequences of law and politics” would produce smarter voters. There are still a lot of people who think the 1929 stock market crash caused the Great Depression even though the unemployment rate was under 6% in June 1930.
