I do remember that my grandmother would sometimes nest-wrap small gifts. They were very fun, like a set of stacking dolls that just kept getting smaller and smaller.
I once bought my mentor a saws-all. I wrapped it nicely with scotch tape.Then I wrapped it with packing tape, making sure the seams were too neat to pick.The card inside said “Merry Christmas… guess you could have used this to open the packing eh?” and he loved it.
I saw one person use zip ties weaved into a mesh. :D
