We used to buy a plastic bag of general use corn for popcorn and then microwave it in a paper lunch bag – no salt, butter, flavoring added and the lunch bag cost more than the corn.
We had not made any in some years. We had to buy a new microwave and husband decided to make some popcorn – so we went out and bought a plastic bag of the corn. It killed the microwave. We got a different microwave – ditto.
Why can’t one still do this in a microwave? We had to buy a special bowl to make the popcorn – which we did once and now when husband wants to use the microwave (I never did except for defrosting and the popcorn and we figured out that the foods we defrosted in it were not right when cooked (other ways) due to how they defrosted) he has to figure out where to put the darn popcorn bowl while he uses for it for things like heating bread as it was in the fridge, so that the bread becomes (his term) inedible.
