I remember the good ol’ days when you could go to a neighbour computer shop and have someone custom make your computer with exactly the parts you wanted.
Now you go to a national outlet and buy whatever someone else thinks you’re dumb enough to pay for. Most people will never use 90% of their PC’s functions.
I currently have two PCs, the old one traces is lineage back to 1984 as parts were upgraded and upgraded over the decades. I finally purchased a new system, because the BIOS in the old one couldn’t handle wifi. A new motherboard cost more than the complete new system.
Our municipality trashed two perfectly good HP (no judgements please) and destroyed the good 1Tb drives. It still has printer and serial ports. All they have computers for is accounting and printing. We have two staff and five printers. I got the carcass’s, put in an spare drive. Perfectly good extra work station. The only thing special about my main machine is RAID1 and dual monitors.
I spend most of my maintenance time removing all the Windows 8/10 garbage.
I have a friend who runs Windows NT on his computer.
When I asked him why, he said “Because I’m a huge Jackson Browne fan! So when people ask my what OS my computer is running, my reply is always: ♪ Running o-on…running on NT! ♪♪ ♪”

I bought my first PC online. I opted for it to have no OS installed. I put in my own and customized it to my specs.
