the fact that most moms threw out all those comic books is why old, original comic books are collector’s items

I had pretty much the same feeling when I came home from being away at school and found my fossil collection gone. Mom kept mementoes and favorite things, but mine were considered just takers up of space. So it goes.

The parents have every right to get rid of the kids’ stuff that is taking up room, BUT they need to let the kids know first! Unfortunately when this usually happens the kids are young adults and overwhelmed or otherwise distracted with their own lives, and may be at the point of least interest in stuff from their childhood (many childhood items are appreciated much more when we’re a lot older – nostalgia I suppose). In my case, it seemed my parents never threw anything away (seriously, they weren’t what I’d call hoarders, but they kept adding on more and more storage space for their “stuff” – I always figured it was from growing up during the Depression). However, lots of my stuff disappeared through the years and no one admitted to (or remembered) throwing any of it away!

My mom was of the mind: “If you don’t put it away, it’s going in the trash..& the rest is history.
