Actually neither one is American in origin. Apples, while they have been adopted as American, originated in eastern Europe. Pies similar to what we have now were already common in England. Still, it could be argued that combining the two is American. As for pizza, they originated in Italy, though pizza as we know it did originate in the US.
Rubber Ducky, I had pizza with squid tentacles and potato slices in Japan. You make an interesting point.
