I can’t quite make out the copyright date, and quite a few of the comics here on GC are “Classic” repeats, so I’m not sure just which News Corporation phone hacking scandal the strip is talkign about. The reference to “…starving babies in Africa” is tragically timeless, but the references to “cell phones” and “smartphone” suggest that it’s contemporary.
If so, then it’s just Murdoch’s world being true to itself. Or, maybe, it’s a reference to the “original” New Corporation phone-hacking scandal:
