KK: excuse me!! can you explain why supermarket produce is so tasteless? Sure!! For commercial farmers, the two most important qualities of their produce are looks and durability for shipping!! Flavor is not a priority!! Hence it looks good but its tasteless!! KK: Hollywood hath hit the supermarket!! Dont hate us because we're beautiful!!
Bananas, mangoes, papaya, pears, tomatoes and a slew of other fruits are all picked well before ripeness and shipped green. At the storage facility prior to shipment to the grocers the items are placed in sealed rooms and then have ethylene gas applied to force ripening. The artificial ripening does nothing to promote the natural sugars that are present with normal on the plant ripening. Hence, they are tasteless.
