Columbus was a great mariner. He supposedly kept two logs: the “real” one for his own record, and one that underestimated the length of the trip for the sake of the crew.
And the fake one turned out to be more correct than the real one.
Is it Columbus’ fault that there was something in the way? Awful big something at that.
His real problem is the fact that he was convinced he made it to the Indies to the day he died (or was it one of the four points of paradise).
Of course, we can blame him for beginning the process of the extermination of the natives, but we should not bring up politics here…
