    I’d never heard of Mary Kay and Johnnie, but I looked it up on Wikipedia. Son of a gun – had the first TV pregnancy, too. (and all this time I thought Lucy was the first).

    Actually, according to a very funny skit from MST3K, the mid-sixties had such a propensity to show single fathers raising kids, the only normal family on tv was the Munsters.

    @steverino – With the lack of lighting both interior and exterior in Victorian times, nighttime was REALLY dark. Climb into bed, snuff out that last candle…and you’d never see anything. I wonder if the good lady was asked if she had FELT her husband…. ;-)

    According to a Victorian book on etiquette, a proper couple will always ensure that male and female author’s books are never side-by-side on the bookshelf unless they happen to be married…
