Nice ethical problem. Norm gets the shaft from the boss through no fault of his own. Ford , who created the issue, stays on but is in no position to save Norms job. And if Ford left in solidarity, the firm might go under as the client might well go elsewhere with this stickiness. If I were Norm, I’d feel exactly the same way, friends stick together, especially if that friend created the problem with reckless behavior*, but what could Ford do to make the situation better? Other than going into business as their own partnership, which would require money + clients (usually ones they’re already working with.) Do they have either?. Ugh, what a way to end a tight bond.
Side issue. Ford giving her false hope will have ugly consequences down the line for Ford and the firm, and was done with malice. Hard to see how this this ends well for him, but this being 2020, , I wouldn’t bet on karma.
