As a SCUBA diver, I’m not so much worried about the warming (I like warm water and I’m not at all convinced that the human race is causing global warming, which began over 10,000 years ago with the melting of the vast glacial sheets that covered huge portions of the globe), as I am the CO2 levels in the oceans, that are raising havoc with the coral.
The daily scare on TV has the amount of sea level rise getting bigger every time they run the story.I will believe 2 feet (It’s up to 10 feet now in some stories) when they show me the math. The world is 3/4 covered with water, and the ice on Antarctica and Greenland is going to raise it that much??? Show me the math.
From the beginning of the movement, manmade global warming was not a scientific issue but a political ploy to justify controlling the world economy. Worse yet, it has become a zealot-driven religious movement immune to facts. Ironically, the Warmists have been successful in projecting their attitudes on their opponents in the public’s eye, making the catastrophists seem scientific and the skeptics seem anti-science.
I’ve noticed that the Warmist movement has been revving up in the last few months to mask the fact that the length of time with no appreciable warming just gets longer and longer. The honest climatologists are beginning to admit their models don’t match the world, but there is no lack of dishonest ones to supply the politicians with their talking points. Don’t think there are any dishonest ones? Read the Climategate emails and judge for yourself.
swr, you don’t exactly believe in fact-checking, do you. That’s a shame. You should try it sometime. It’s a good way to learn things.
Just a hint, by the way: if all the Antarctic ice melted, it would raise sea levels by about 200 feet. In the distant geological past when Earth had NO polar ice at all, and no glaciers, sea levels were approximately 550 feet higher than they are now.
@Lynne B. You might start by fact checking yourself. The link you provide does not support your statement. Per your own link if EVERY bit of ice on land melts and runs into the ocean, sea levels rise by 216 feet. If that’s correct, then where, pray tell, did your remaining 284 feet of sea water come from in the “distant past?”
Lynne B: Me? Anti-science? Your ignorance is showing.
As for those emails, have you read them or are you mouthing what someone else said? As for the “dissection”, the two reviews that supposedly cleared them were by the organizations involved; hardly credible. But just wait it out and see how long it takes for that temperature curve to … curve.
