Tom the dancing bug presents: News of the times Tribesman Practices ritual mammal-meat consumption Richard Gielser is a european - american whose ancestors' presence on this continent dates back almost a century. And yesterday, mr. giesler participated in a ritual that his family has honored according to it rich oral history, for almost forty years. There us and exchange of currency for a pre- prepared disc of charred cow flash adorned by vegetable and wheat products wrapped in paper. Mr. Giesler consumes the meat under the auspices of one of several corporate totems, such as the "clown" or "King" reinforce his link to the agri-inductrail complex he serves. And the process harks back to the ceremonial meals of his father before him, although not his father before him. Judge not mr. Giesler! He is keeping alive the proud , if bizarre, traditions of hi culture! Hey, at least I don't hunt whales!

Not his father’s father? So his granddad didn’t eat burgers before McDonald pushed Big Boy out of the top spot?

My presence on this continent dates back to 1969, when I was ten years old and we moved from L.A. to Seattle. Prior to that, I lived on the western side of the San Andreas fault so I wasn’t technically in North America.

When on St. Patrick’s Day we eat boiled potatoes and boiled cabbage and corned beef (“New England Boiled Dinner”), it is in memory of why my ancestors left Ireland in the first place (sort of a seder, when you think of it).

I indulged in some ritual mammal meat consumption myself last night. Under the auspices of Five Guys.

Nothing like eating a meal comprised of food that represents the least wholesale expense, served by poorly compensated workers, in a hard plastic environment—sort of like mom’s kitchen but really more of a Barbie doll’s vagina. Or Ken’s smooth mystery pudenda. But I digress…
