I rather miss the old usage of that word. I can’t think of a word that meant that exact mood. " my heart was young and Frivolous"" my heart was young and happy"“My heart was young and Carefree?”“My heart was young and without a care?”“My h heart was young and though I didn’t have money I was OK and enjoyed life?”None of those quite take the place that the original use of gay, did.
Unless I miss my guess, Dempster is inspired by “The Outbursts of Everett True,” an old old strip about a similarly large, bald, violent fellow. It was a pretty simple concept; in the first panel someone would annoy or inconvenience Ev with some inconsiderate behavior, and in the second he would beat the tar out of them (if male) or humiliate them (if female or “insufficiently masculine”).
It’s often a funny strip but still a product of its day, and while Everett was usually very kind and gentle with animals and very young children, he also occasionally revealed himself to be an awful bigot and racist, and in one single-panel strip had thrown a woman’s dog to its almost-certain death. (Most such strips are very deliberately left out of the collection published in 2016 but may be found online.) Sometimes his trigger was nothing more than a change in fashions or a difference of opinion, so in the end he was just a violent jerk.
I’m back from my computer problems only to find the ads more numerous and intrusive. They often decide I want to be sent to a new tab when all I did was scroll past.
GoComics wants me to pay for the pro version, but I’m thinking of not reading it at all instead.
I remember the last time, “Two Lads Using Words Which Will Never Be Mis-Interpreted In Future Eras,” was published. They were talking about what a boob a mutual acquaintance was while rescuing a tufted titmouse from a feral pussycat by waving a hoe at it.

So basically nothing has changed in 100 years other than fashion.
So anyhow… congrats and happy anniversary!

Whilst engaged in pleasant intercourse I remarked that she had a fine ass, and offered to pay her handsomely for it.

It’s plain to see that this is genuine by the stains on the paper…or maybe I need to clean the screen…
