“The United Nations is putting out urgent calls for aid, saying as many as 5 million people need aid in the shadow of a looming famine, according to The Associated Press.”
It’s impossible for people to “help themselves” when there is no water to grow food and feed herds, and these droughts are to be expected more often as a result of anthropogenic climate change and will become more disastrous as human populations grow. The effects on human cultures won’t be pretty, although I doubt that I will see it directly—I’m too old—but my grandchildren may well see it.
