Thank you, Mr. Cavna, for lauding the birth of one of America’s greatest writers of macabre mysteries. Baltimore deserves no acclaim for his body of works; only blame for his death. I am a Baltimorean, and the theory on how he died (i.e. beaten & robbed by plug-uglies), may never be proven. Being found unconscious, in a gutter outside a bar where voting took place that day, slovenly dressed, is indicative of " cooping", or how persons could be forced to cast multiple votes. Common politics in 1849. Every other theory either has, or can be debunked. Early accounts of Poe’s behavior, from attending physician, Dr.John J. Moran, Poe called repeatedly out the name “Reynolds”, which was the last name of the election judge at Ryan’s 4th Ward Polls, where Poe was found.
Here’s a lesser known theory of who “Reynolds” may have been:www.matthewpearl.com/poe/assets/reynolds.txt
