Had George Orwell lived then, he could’ve written a book about the Kingdom of Id called 984.

Why do I get the feeling I’ve just volunteered?

I’m reminded of how that jerk Sen. Harry Reid tried to explain that Americans pay their income taxes voluntarily. How stupid does he think we are?!

Although I volunteered, I served in the draftee Army, and on average it wasn’t nearly as competent as our volunteer Army which all Americans should be proud of. No free country needs to enslave its citizens to defend itself. The all-volunteer Army is one of the great advances of freedom in my lifetime, up there with the fall of the Soviet Union.

    (984! Good one, J.R.!)

I’ve been wondering what the thought process must have been like for those that “volunteered” to fight for our independence from England? Maybe something like: ~~It’s time to be willing to die for something rather than just living for nothing…

Or is this the way we’re starting to feel again?

More like “voluntold”, quite common in government offices in Canada…

I’m reminded of advice my AF recruiter gave me. “When the TI (Training Instructor) asks for volunteers to step forward, everyone step BACK. The one fool still standing in place just ‘volunteered’.” PRICELESS advice I still follow all these (30) years later. <:-)
