Oh please, Wiz has created bigger bangs than fireworks ever could, all with his own magic. Not necessarily always on purpose, but still.

I live in Santa Clara County in Calif. (Silicon Valley to you). The county hasn’t allow fireworks here since the late 1970s. Not even so much as a sparkler. Admittedly there WERE a lot of grass and roof fires every Fourth before they barred ’em, but miss the firework stands popping up every year and the smell of burning smoke pots.

On average, 280 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month around the July 4th holiday.Sparklers burn at 2000 degrees – enough to melt metal and glass and people hand them to small children.

I would like to get to sleep before 2AM when I have to get up early the next morning. It would be nice.

A childhood memory: Learning that fireworks were to be banned due to injuries and wondering why I was being punished for the stupidity of others.

Soon all the grumps will start complaining that they can’t sleep for all the noise. Get over it. Play background music or close your windows!

I live in Iowa where, until recently, every firework but sparklers and “snakes” (and some similar “harmless” items) were banned. The ban was imposed by the state legislation after some fires that began during the celebration. I understand one of the worst was the result of a sparkler being tossed into the air and landing where it shouldn’t have. So of course the politicians, in their wisdom, banned everything but.
