There ARE non-percussive fireworks. In the fabrication of fireworks, the explosive noise is one part of each unit, and the color display is another part, so you CAN have colors without sharp noise. There are places in Canada that have chosen explosion-free displays.

Why ruin a good fireworks show, other than to pander to a few people? It’s the only part of a fireworks show that blind people can enjoy, so why do you all hate blind people so much?

That would be fantastic for pets. I know an idiot who sets off fireworks for 5 days straight, three hours at a time at EVERY public holiday. People have complained about him, but the police say they are “too busy” to look into the complaints. Too busy doing nothing.

good luck to the Americans with the annual tradition of putting explosives into the hands of untrained idiots who should not be allowed to hold anything more than a sparkler made of coloured ribbons.

The neighborhood shows started last night – the displays were fun to watch and try to photograph… The down side is the struggle to remember it’s not a combat zone and a lot of the pets went into hiding – only two more nights of this…

I often watch the local fireworks from a hillside over a half mile away. The boom comes about 3 seconds after the flash.

I must be odd. I love fireworks displays. We went to one last night and I got as close as they’d let me. It was beautiful! Bright lights and loud booms! I can’t wait until the 4th of July display Monday night. Happy 4th of July!

Silent Fireworks in this country are about as likely as “Mericans” not talking all the time. Ain’t gonna happen.

Katzenberg: I don’t see it that way, Geoff. Let me tell you what I think we’re dealing with here, a potentially positive learning experience…

Grim Reaper: Shut up! Shut up you American. You always talk, you Americans, you talk and you talk and say ‘Let me tell you something’ and ‘I just wanna say this’, Well you’re dead now, so shut up.

Where did the guy in the wheelchair in panel #9 come from? He wasn’t there in panel #6. I can understand a dog running up without being seen, but Wiz looks like he pushed the veteran.

Yes, probably cartoon physics, but still….

If we had less wars for the sake of corporations then there’d be a lot less PTSD.

And folks who actually are kind to animals and not animals themselves get it that they don’t like loud sounds. While you can keep most animals away from fireworks shows you can’t when some neighborhood numbnuts (that shouldn’t even be allowed to play with a glowstick) pops fireworks, especially at 2 or 3 in the morning.

I believe the point is not so much about wildfires but the PTSD that the noise triggers. The veteran in the wheelchair and service animal can enjoy the show without the trauma.

I wish they would ban the noisy fireworks everywhere. Have some sympathy for our veterans and the stressed-out pets. It’s awful to deal with a dog that can’t understand and relax (even with calming aids).

Conceivably, it could be done. The physics involved are not that much different than suppressing a firearm. It would require slowing the rapid expansion of the gasses, just like a suppressor (more popularly known as, but inaccurately, a silencer) for a firearm.
