Reminded me of a story told to me by a coworker. At his previous company, they had a big luncheon for some employees. My coworker (and others) were unhappy that they were not invited, and were expected to carry the workload while those people partied. But at the end of the luncheon, the attendees were informed that they were all laid off, and security walked them out. During the luncheon, bosses had IT shutting off those employees’ access, etc.
Afterwards, my coworker’s boss informed him that instead of a luncheon his reward was getting to keep his job. Later, the bosses wondered why nobody attended any company events anymore.
