Had our best salesman quit quite suddenly. Ran into him at a bidder’s conference about a year later, and asked him what happened?
He told me that he and the boss / owner had gone to an appreciation party hosted by one of our main vendors. The vendor’s head of Sales came over to them and asked our salesman what plans he had for the $10k bonus he had won from that vendor, for selling the most product out of all salesmen in our region… Our salesman asked, “what bonus?” Boss jumped in and said he’d kept the bonus because he was the owner. Neither the vendor nor the salesman were pleased with that…
Didn’t have that problem the next year. Without that salesman our product sales tanked, and the vendor did not even invite the boss / owner to that year’s appreciation party.
