I recently had to replace my cable boxes if I wanted to continue getting Video On Demand, all my televisions on the other hand are at least 20 years old.

This is written on a MacBook Pro 15" 2010. It’s kind of slow, and Firefox struggles with Lastpass, so I only run that plugin when needed. Chrome says it want a newer os to update…

Chant: “The power of Steve Jobs compels you!” Should be OK after that.

I just had to replace my 10-year old laptop. The motherboard committed suicide and it was the same to buy a new laptop as to replace the motherboard.

Yah. 8 – 10 years is about the time until you can’t update the OS, but they still work. We have a 10 year old iMac and can’t update many things on it due to its age. It still works and we keep it as a back up. No matter how old your system is, back it up daily and take good care of it and it will take care of you. YMMV.

My beloved Mac Pro 1,1 (cheese-grater) died a few years ago (sigh). It still sits beside my computer table because the height is perfect to hold 2 Mac Mini servers, the 10 TB media drive and a dock for 3.5" bare drives or SSDs. My first Apple computer was the FIRST Apple computer and I’ve have many since then. I guess many would call me “a fan girl”.

Future archeologists will regard this as The Age of Rapid Obsolescence and set up digs in landfills. They will puzzle over why Victorian products lasted a lifetime and ours needed to be updated, upgraded and/or replaced almost daily.

I find it sad that we have to keep updating things like phones and computers, even tho the old ones still work. I have several tv’s that are over 10 years old…do we really need to see better quality video if we’re watching old tv shows on tubi?

My iMac is closing in on 20 years. It has been seriously upgraded a couple of times but still works nicely.

I got a dell from 2012: dimension 2400, can’t use any other OS than XP! But it’s still happily chugging along…

Oh dear! This doesn’t bode well for my 2017 Macbook!!! Yes, I really have a 2017 Macbook and it’s running MacOS Monterey. Not too shabby!
