Yet Dakota is as snobby as ever. Nerds made the Internet, Facebook, Twitter and anything else you can think of, kid! Hair products? Yes, even nerds made those too.

Took me a minute to figure out that “totes” means “totally”.

So Dakota says “totes” instead of “totally?” Here I was looking around the strip for something resembling totes. Looks like Dakota wants to celebrate being stupid.

I really love Phoebe’s reaction! She’s figured out already how to deal with the Dakotas of the world. Yay nerds!

And what’s wrong with wanting to be smart and next to a cute boy? Just don’t misspell “Unicorn”

Funny, I had just thought back on the spelling bee arc of “Ozy & Millie” the other day. Apparently Dakota won’t be serious competition like Felicia.

I love Dakota’s expression in panel #2! ::grins:: I do believe that’s the first time I’ve seen any sign that Dakota’s had her ears pierced and/or wear studs.

Phoebe, you go girl! Dakota will be the girl on the cheerleader squad with the IQ of a rock. Who knows? if Dakota was a real person, she would be some girl in films in which Dakota would be ashamed to talk about when she’ll be on the back side of 30.

In panel #2 Dakota’s left hand has the thumb on the wrong side.

And before people (again) criticize my commenting on things like this, it’s not because I gleefully scrutinize for errors, but because I like Heavenly Nostrils so much I enjoy enlarging the strips and gazing in the details and nuances, and delighting in everything. So, now and then I happen to spot something; they aren’t deal-breakers, just an FYI when I comment.

That’s the only reason I mention things like that, too: I care a great deal about Heavenly Nostrils.

Have no idea what anybody’s talking about anent thumbs. I find no problem reproducing the pose, and I think that if my hands were backward I’d have noticed by now. Especially right now, since I’m touch-typing this.

I love being a nerd/geek! Nerds actually tend to be themselves. Leave it to my geeky teacher to be able to turn geeky into a very positive term on my letter of recommendation.

I was an A-B student but never really distinctly the type that the Dakotas of the world would classify as a “nerd” (they found plenty of other reasons for picking on me, though), so I’ve never really been forced to confront this mentality face to face the way Phoebe (and quite clearly, the author) has. It doesn’t make it any less inexplicable, though. What, exactly, does the sight of a quiet, smart peer do to the gears inside their brains that make them so eager to lash out and humiliate them? Chalking it up to “jealousy” seems like pat wishful thinking, but damned if I have any other possibilities…
