It was that pepperoni pizza he had for lunch. They told him not to put anchovies, hot peppers and double cheese on it. But believing in his infallibility, he ignored him. Plus they haven’t invented Tums yet, so……

Do you have to cut-and-paste WITH the cursor still in the picture? Try the Snipping Tool! It’s not a big deal. It certainly doesn’t hurt the humor, but I doubt that so many of the great masters painted cursors in their paintings.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (no cursor).Portrait of Pope Leo X with Cardinals Giulio de’ Medici and Luigi de’ Rossi (painting’s Wikipedia page link points to individuals) is shown, with a different coloration image (click-to-humongous image compliments of its Google Cultural Institute page), and described (Google translated), by its current location page.A different coloration click-to-enlarge image, along with a description and extensive artist bio, can be found here. Another different coloration image can be found here; but there are many different coloration or detail images available online.A longer description can be found here, and in 2003, not counting the bibliography pages, Renaissance Quarterly, devoted 42 pages to an analysis of it. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (many, many more under Subcategories at each level).Second, of the 3 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

Leo X was the last Pope who wasn’t a priest. He was also an atheist and gay. How did he become Pope? His family hadmoney and political power.
