A friend told of her youth when Hitler entered her native Austria and the people cheered. There were the cheers at Nuremburg, the rallies not the trials. I thought of Gaza relative to the horror of the Warsaw Ghetto. The claims that Poland had attacked Germany, so Germany had to invade and seize adjoining lands to prevent being "attacked’ were brought again to mind.
This is what I thought of and felt as I watched the Congress of the United States cheer a tyrant no less morally atuned, merely limited in the number of HIS victims.
May the people of Israel use wisdom to remove Netanyahu, and realign their kinesset to seek peace, not more seizures of land, and wars, and abuse of neighbors and citizens. Theocratic rule is tyrany, whether from Christian, Muslim, or Jew, or political radicalism become “faith” not to be challenged, but obeyed, as meeting the demands of the evangelical religious right, who defend the state of Israel ONLY because in their view of the “rapture”, those Jews WILL either convert to Jesus, or burn in Hell, wiht the rest of the “non-believers”. (These are the people that call Islam “radical”?)
I am NOT “anti-Semitic” as all the members of that tribe, not just the Jews, DO have a right to survive, IN that ancient geographic area called PALESTINE, even if the ARAB component of the tribe and Palestinian residents of centuries, have been denied “official statehood”, by occupying powers.
A two state solution, along the lines of the Peel Commissio report IS the only fair decision, including shared administration of that city-state called Jerusalem, which is nothing, and EVERYTHING, to all the warring “major” relgions who’ve fomented not love and peace for their faiths, but rather centuries of hatred and death.
Again, reflect on the attitudes of not the Jewish or Arab populations, but the repressive intent of the radicals in their midst too long allowed to govern. Netanyahu’s claim that he represents ALL JEWS is as bogus as saying Hitler represented ALL the German population, or that ISIL represents all Islam, even though they violate nearly every tenet of their faiths.
Bibi does NOT represent all Israelis, let alone all Jews, and hopefully, despite his latest theater in Washington, his key audience will not applaud, but go to the polls, and send him down the road.
