The loss of 13 lives because that young man felt the need to text is heartbreaking. The photos from that wreck should be in the halls of every high school across the nation. Godspeed to those from the First Baptist Church of New Braunfels, Texas. A sad situation all the way around.
Texting while driving is scary, but even scarier is that folks — at least some of them, like him — don’t respond to the world outside their phone as real. Before the fatal collision, this guy swerved several times into oncoming traffic and off the road, yet it apparently didn’t occur to him that this might have unwelcome actual consequences for himself (not to mention others).
