I agree, jeffc42 Loyalty to the departing does not preclude you from claiming their office furniture and supplies. You get first notice and thus first dibs, after all.
When our department was being abolished, I took no chances and took home my personal stuff before the last day. Didn’t want to lose my thermos and hot pot, picture frames, and such. I had the only ergonomic key board in the place (carpal tunnel, doctor ordered) and handed it over to the person I wanted to have it before it could be looted. By that time morale was down the tubes and nobody really cared what disappeared. And really, so much of it was junk. How many paperclips do you need?
We circle like vultures. Waiting. waiting. the chair is still warm. Mainly due to the live body using the darn thing. .Same thing happens with office supplies. I remember one year – after our annual start the year off right meeting with the boss – we office supervisors discovered the supply closet was OPEN. Being a narrow little room – 3 of us crowded in and passed stuff out to the other 12 eagerly waiting supervisors. . When caught – we were accused of being “a horde of locusts”. The response was mass giggles, shouts of I got mine! And a run for the door! And we still had the nerve to ask for more supplies the following week.
