American cheese isn’t too bad. It’s just cheddar with a considerably higher milk content. It has its uses, but unless you’re under 10 it’s a bad sign if it’s the only cheese you’ll eat. (n.b. When I was under 10, it was the only cheese I would eat.) Velveeta, on the other hand, is “processed” with corn oil. (OK, I also grew up eating Velveeta. So sue me. I lived in the Midwest.)
Also, Jack cheese isn’t “American cheese”, but it originated in America. Good stuff, Maynard (particularly if it’s got garlic in it).
