I bought a little button once (pinback, not clothes fastener) that says “The fact that nobody understands you doesn’t prove you’re an artist.” It reminded me of a friend… nice guy, really…. but always whining about being misunderstood…
In his late 40’s at the time… neither terribly attractive nor very gainfully employed…but always getting big crushes on pretty, flighty, 20-year-old girls. They rejected him…. because, of course, he was “too artistic” or “too smart” (after all, as he often announced, his IQ was 135.)
So one day he saw my button… which cracked him up. Said he knew a guy who was totally like that.We never see ourselves. In fact, maybe that button describes me. How would I know?
