When I was in high-school back in the 60’s, the Cdn Govt declared Canada to be bilingual (English and French). Hence French classes were the rigor of the day — yeech! Computer languages okay, but human languages not so much. My French is about as good as Agnes. The last Cdn census indicates that about 15-17% of the population is bilingual. Mostly in Quebec. Resist the temptation to go English-Spanish.
When we went to the Mediterranean a few years ago I learned a few polite phrases in Spanish, French and Italian. While standing next to an elderly French woman waiting for the light to change we made eye contact and I said, “Buenos Dias”.

And we humans do not like people making fun of other humans, not even our beloved Agnes and Trout.
(we are VERY sensitive to the feelings of others)
