Literacy is confusing and recursive.

I have a friend who is a college professor. She tells me that students who read entire books are a minority.

These days consider me one of the minorities (in more ways than one). I am definitely an actual hold in your hands (hardback) bookaholic. Ran out of bookshelf space a while ago and under threat of physical harm by the wife (can’t really blame her), not able to sneak anymore in the house, although I do often try of course.

I have always loved to read. I ‘m currently reading book number 2237 and that is only the ones I’ve read since I started keeping track in 1992. I transferred the list to a computer database when I first got one and it is great to be able to see what books I’ve read by any author, makes it easy to just order newer titles from the libraray.

Whole magazines have been built around pictures, Trout.

Meanwhile, my abibliophobia continues unabated.

I have read an assortment of books. I’ve read comic books, graphic novels, romance novels, mysteries, essay collections, etc. I’ve read e-books and listened to audiobooks, but still prefer the “dead tree” versions. I think that the printed word will ultimately survive and adapt to the generations that will come after me. It comes down to how parents, teachers and other adults children are familiar with nurture how children and teens read. If kids and teens gain a love for reading via graphic novels or audiobooks, who are we to kick? We have to get people in the church before we can preach to them.

Doesn’t matter what or how, just read.
