Ruth buries her face in her pillow while she cries. Her mom sits next to her on the bed and says, "If I seem over-protective, it's because I know! I've been there!" Her mom goes into her world and says, "It's easy to get a lot of wrong ideas about love! Believe me.." Her mom paces and angrily says, "Nothing good comes of it!!" She gets Ruth's attention. Shocked, Ruth picks her head up to look at her mom, pondering if she also falls under the 'nothing good' category. Her mom realizes her what she had just said and tells Ruth, "Oh, honey, I'm sorry!"
This arc has touched on some really good issues. Were I a young parent, I’d definitely use it to initiate an honest, frank discussion with a middle school or high school child. Heck, even a college student. Wish I had that talk when I was young. Don’t know what good it would have done, but…
