Janis: I miss my baby!
Janis: If Gene is too busy to come here, we're going down there!
Janis: Hello...
Hey! I was just talking about you!
Janis: It's like ESP!
Arlo: Or lame scripting.
Varnes — I was just coming in here to say exactly your first sentence! He’s gonna find himself with some really lame dialogue if he keeps that up.Janice will get all the good jokes.
Meanwhile… from yesterday (?)… no, I plant my tomatoes as close as possible to May 15th… sounds really late in some parts of the country, and even to some people here, but we get cold spells in April that can stunt the roots. How about you? This year I vow not to put in so many as last year…. of course, I vow that every year…but they follow me home…
What Sammysock said. When I waz a kid, ma used to start ‘em early on the sun-porch and plant ’em when she thought it ’safe’… Ma Nature sometimes confused the issue, though. But them big tomatoes, a slice of onion, slather of mayonnaise, all on whole wheat bread and eat ‘em outside, ’cuz the juice would run down your elbows………Mmmmmmmmmm…good eatin’!!
in central MN, I have started seedlings and will be planting them in containers this weekend. Last week was still in the 30s at night but I dont see any frost happening in the long range so I think I am safe. Planted carrots and potatoes this weekend, corn, tomatoes and cucumbers are next up and I think I will try some radishes this year.
My tomatoes and cucumbers have been in for a couple of weeks (southeast Virginia). Got a couple of blooms on the tomatoes. I usually wait until about now, but we had such a warm April that I got things in a little early.
zedman, yeah, I agree….although I’ve seen pockets of snow underneath evergreens south of the Straits on Memorial Day, Paw Paw is pretty far south, and it would be very unusual..Although the west side of the state is much cooler because of the Lake…It can be 30º in South Haven and 40º ten miles inland.

Hey Susan, in MI May 15 is often early for planting. I usually look at the long range forecast a week before Memorial Day. June frosts are possible.

I know Paw Paw! And of course I know Marquette. Used to cross country up there. Miss it, too….

Another SW MI dweller here…and yes I’ve had just-sprouted beans freeze on the 3rd of June.
