my husband gets up at 4am to walk 4 miles every day so I try to have dinner ready between 4 and 4:30 so we have a couple of hours to digest before bed, which is around 8.
A pound of fat is about 3500 calories (3.5 million Physics Calories). So to lose a pound you must burn an extra 350 calories a day for 10 days or give up 350 calories (moderate dish of ice cream) a day for 10 days.
As I look at Janis, if I was Arlo I wouldn’t WANT her to lose any weight. She looks great as she is. .Except that darn cell phone. She needs to lose that darn cell phone!
I’ve had reflux for forty years now, and am allergic or sensitive to EVERY kind of drug designed to do away with it. I have to have plenty of protein before bedtime and have a nice bedtime snack like milk and non-gluten cookies, or else I’ll have to get up in the middle of the night and eat something.
1: Exercise is good for your health even if you don’t lose weight.
2: You don’t necessarily notice a drop in weight because exercise builds muscle. But you will still look better.
3: The calories burned from the exercise routine itself may not be enough to affect much, but regular exercise (at least once every 2 days) will raise your body’s base metabolism rate, which will cause you to burn extra calories when you’re not exercising, and that can be very significant.
Ah, Janis… enjoy your walks for what they are. You are fit and healthy. You are in the “maintenance” stage. You don’t need to actually lose any weight.
Comic-strip writers seem to enjoy having women who are skinny as rails, obsess about their “excess” weight in order to make funny (?) comics. Cf. the grandma in Grand Avenue. (She’s not obsessing today, but often does.)
When it comes to exercise, intensity matters more than duration. That lesson took me forever to learn since I was under the impression that more was better. More is better can work while your young, but once you pass 30, forget about it.

The rewards of walking are as much mental as physical.

Me either Janis, but it will improve your good cholesterol. Don’t quit walking.

PS: Janus burns about 100 calories per mile. So, she needs to walk 3.5 miles a day for 10 days.

So many here presume that all that exercise does is burn fat. Hello? Muscle mass increases with exercise!
Muscle does not weigh more than fat – it takes up less space.
