Arlo: The United States is 240 years old today!
Arlo: I think we can agree...
Arlo: Any birthday divisible by ten is a big deal!
Arlo: OK, so it's ALL we agree on!
Brittan didn’t officially recognize US independence until July 4th, 1976. One could argue that the country is 40 years old. The rest of the time we were just a rebellious territory they were tired of fighting against—like a rebellious teenager you caved into just to shut them up.
Hancock – and only Hancock – signed the Declaration on 4/4/76. While the Treaty of Paris granted independence, The Articles Of Confederation & Perpetual Union were in place; the United States as we know it will be 228 years old Sept 13, the anniversary of the Constitution being adopted.
The essence of freedom is the ability to disagree. The legal ability to disagree is threatened today, by politicians who would criminalize disagreement over causation of “global warming.” The moral ability to disagree is threatened today by purported academicians who prohibit “micro-aggression.” A republic, if you can keep it.
You could also say (as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson would) that we’re 240 yrs and 2 days old today as Congress voted for the Declaration on July 2nd.
Let’s just hope that by 250 we can find some way to all live in peace without most of the human population of the earth having to die in a nuclear holocaust first.
And said AOC was a disaster that Libertarians want now, today. So do many Republicans who like a hands off govt for their businesses.-—————————————————————-It’s all about balance. Either extreme is bad. And we all have opinions about how much is too much either way.
“And said AOC was a disaster ".Not a disaster, but so flawed that we replaced it with a much better Constitution which we still tweak every now and then to improve.
Night-Gaunt49Back in 2012, a fair number of British historians referred to the 182-14 mess as "the second war of American independence. To quote from another conflict, “It was a near run thing.”
“One can establish a timeline by starting with Zechariah’s revelation of a coming son (John the Baptist), which happened during his Temple duty (Abijah). Assuming Elizabeth’s pregnancy quickly ensued, it would be followed by Mary’s conception of Yeshua 6 months later, which brings us to a birthdate of sometime in late September.”.Except that she was already one month and three days pregnant when Zechariah got the news and the division of Abijah was always screwed up by being on a 24 week rotating schedule and a little more than 52 weeks in a year. Elizabeth hadn’t told him yet because she wasn’t sure and had already had 5 early stage miscarriages..(He said as if he weren’t making the whole thing up.)
Guess I don’t see the date as a “large thing”. It’s just a day to celebrate the Birth, not saying it’s the actual “Birthday” as the term has come to mean now. As I mentioned earlier, as far as I know no-one bases any theological dogma on the basis of that date being definitive.

In The Treaty of Paris (1783) Britain acknowledged the United States to be sovereign and independent.

I think both sides will agree it’s a pretty great country. Now if the other side would just shut up and sit down.
