For about 18 summers, I painted houses to supplement my then-inadequate income. I now have varicose veins, and my shoulders, elbows, and knees are not in the best of shape. If I try to throw overhand, the shoulder pain is intense. Sidearm is okay, and I just tell myself that I’ve become a right-handed Randy Johnson.
Perhaps there is honor in manual labor, but it took its toll on this body.
HEY FOLKS: Modern medicine has actually progressed beyond bloodletting. Get to a good (do your homework-don’t just listen to the fellow golfers, knitters or whatever) New joints are incredible – got 5 of them. Shoulders are a little tough, but knees are now a piece of cake, climb stairs the second day; a little longer with anterior hip repl.; a few weeks for shoulder. You don’t get bonus points in heaven for suffering. Arthritis is awful but there is help. Better get to it before the GOP takes away Medicare.
I’m in over-all great shape for my age (68) but am facing a full shoulder replacement in the next month. Can’t explain it other than over use of my predominant (right) arm. The left will be next followed by knees I suspect. Getting old isn’t for sissies I guess.

40 years ago I had a good arm. Now I’ve got an arm- or two.

Two words a middle aged man should never utter: “Go long!”

You know you’re getting old when you can’t make a pass at your wife anymore. ;-)

Arlo should stick to romantic passes.

Like Gallagher said, “God gives you all of your youth to learn shit you can’t do when you get older.”

Arlo threw the ball so hard, the strips came off.
