I doubt that TV-Program has ever drawn attention outside the US (maybe Canada). It will probably be mysterious to anybody else in what way this is a joke.
This comic strip, admittedly not one of my better efforts, was drawn several weeks ago. As I recall, Arlo obliquely is commenting on election coverage specifically, and television generally. Remember the election? If it seems to you a bit harsh in light of current events, I apologize. Bad timing. It happens to all cartoonists sooner or later.
This one is brilliant! Arlo is trying to cheer himself up while making a comment about humanity’s need for physical sustenance and aesthetic pleasure. Well done.
been saying that for the last few years AND especially the last few weeks – funny how history does repeat itself for those who don’t learn from history – humans do need to get over themselves and their thinking they are so smart when in all reality they fall for the same things/distractions from truth over and over again
Even with the timing the strip is accurate. When the ‘pandemic’ is resolved the temporarily distracted people will find the world is not the one they previously knew…

Janis thinks Arlo is being rather Juvenal today.
(Not that unusual.)

Appropriate whenever the population needs distraction and comic relief.

I actually got the Circus reference. Got lost when he asked for bread.

Because television is bread and circuses for today, both sad and funny.

Another A and J I don’t get. I don’t feel like reading through 71 comments to find out what it means. Onto other comics.
