Well, there’s a race worth crying about. Kinda like watching Frisbee Golf. I’ll never participate.

Best thing about the Tour de France coverage is usually the helicopter shots of the French countryside.

Gimme a break. There’s going to be a lot more things you’ll miss. I suppose you’re going to get out there on your Western Flyer and show us how it’s done?

Won by Jonas Vingegaard. Two-time defending champion Tadej Pogacar finished second. Household names, both.

There was a time when Arlo would use events as this as a catalyst for a bonus bout of bouncing on the beds. Arlo is slipping.

The Tour de France isn’t heavily promoted in the US because the cable networks can’t ultra-monetize it.

The only time the Tour de France was on my radar is when friends invited us over to watch the leg to Carcassonne while playing Carcassonne.

About the only time there is significant interest in the U.S. is when a rider from there wins. And then there’s Lance Armstrong ….

    Your loss, Arlo.

Of course, I wouldn’t watch it on the US coverage either. Try to get a raw feed on ’tinternet if you can: Watching the French countryside and the small town as they travel through is wonderful and relaxing.

The Tour is not a great spectator sport because it takes so long… which is what makes it great. It is not so much a contest of strength but of stamina, hardly fit to video. The Race Across America (RAAM) is even less covered. While the Tour is a stage race – each stage a few hours long in a circuit around the border of France – RAAM is a marathon of staggering proportions. Contestants begin at the west coast of the USA (historically the pier at Santa Monica, but more recently Oceanside) and compete to be the first to arrive at the destination (recently Annapolis, Maryland) on the east coast. Sleep is very expensive. The time to beat is 8 days, 1 hour, 23 minutes for 3070 miles.

Now, for runners there is the Peaks 500 mile ultramarathon….

    |Even after the saga of he-who-must -not be named, I’m still a fan of cycling and the race. I taped (DVRed) every stage and watched later that night. I did get to zoom through some of it each night too…
