Arlo will provide Janis a “Hand To Hold On To” and knowing them them they won’t “Have A Lonely Ol’ Night,” but will “Get A Leg Up” and “Dance Naked.”

New roof or it’s time to sell the house?

Just finished a brutal winter here in South Jersey. We had a whole half inch of measurable snowfall.

Huh. A reminder, that US houses are build differently to the ones here in Germany. Here even the roofs of garages are roofed with ceramic, concrete or slate tiles. That does more than just hurt. But is usually withstanding even a serious hailstorm that wrecks a cars body and windows.

OUCH!! A shingle flying down at several yards hurts like crazy! Glad it’s only a cartoon strip . .

Smile they said, it could be worse they said. So I smiled and sure enough, it got worse.

Ah, a little Cougar Mellenkamp for the cougar…

19 years in Oregon: one big (2ft) snowstorm, one really bad ice storm. In northern Illinois where I was raised, that’s any weekend in January.

With age, come’s pain. You learn to live with it, so no complaint’s here, doesn’t do any good to relieve the pain. Pain is part of life.

At least this case of shingles can be cured by a competent roofer. The other shingles are a major pain.

Janis — that was just part of an asphalt shingle, if it’d been a slate or a Spanish roof tile, Arlo would be rushing you to the local ER!

I decided to future proof my house at the beginning of the pandemic. I’ve added a cistern for gravity fed water. Added 5Kw of solar panels a 10Kw battery bank. Grid-Tie system and an off grid system. I already had a generator but when the grid goes down its almost impossible to get gasoline so I keep 8 – 20L cans of gasoline with stabilizer added it can keep for years if tightly closed. My neighbors think I’m nuts but we just had an ice storm that left a million + in the dark with loss of food and heating. We’re doing great and my ill prepared neighbors are very envious . The climate has changed and its not going to get better….so get prepared.
