She wants everything but won’t put any effort into it

Arlo and Janis have their own reasonable expectations, but they are not both going to happen. They are doomed.

I prefer to enjoy my retirement by enjoying the things I have, not by taking on projects that will consume a huge amount of effort and adding certain stress.

Arlo, there comes a time when listening to your wife is the smart thing to do.

Clearly what they need to do is drive home and continue to talk ad nauseam about moving for the next few years and then move into a nursing home, or a cemetery.

OR, Jimmy could turn the strip over to a younger artist that that has some fresh ideas and (most importantly) can actually produce a funny comic strip.

In other news, seems like JJ is almost ready to relaunch his own website at the end of summer. Can’t wait!

Sounds like they both want what they already have.

I was leaning toward Janis’ position, but the thought of building a personalized place to live — if I could afford it — resonates strongly with my creative side.

As Humans we are inherently dissatisfied. Complication and greener grass is our destiny.

This entire arc is getting wearisome.

This series is painful.

One of my wife’s co-workers looked at over 135 houses…and decided to continue renting. We looked at six houses, made a bid, accepted, BAD inspection, cancelled, purchased our second choice. The house is too big, but the lot is large. We have over 20 fruit/nut trees now.

Am I not remembering correctly? Three, maybe five, years ago, wasn’t Janis drawing a house plan for building???

Or…stay where you are in the place that reflects you, where you have brought out the potential and is far enough away from the kids.

They should look into physically moving their current house to the new location. Might cost less then building a new one from scratch. There are contractors who can do that sort of thing.

Need more than nine to survive it…..

Find an old Victorian house that’s about to be torn down, buy it and move it to your future lot!!!

In one of my moves we bought a new house, after the wife said it was perfect. After we moved in she said, “Great, let’s get started, we have a lot to do.” My reply was, “Wait a minute, you said it was perfect!” ‘Well yea, its is a perfect house for us to make our own." It was those kind of games and much more, which is why she is now an ’ex.’

Build your house the way you want it and you still might wish you had done it differently. You discover things you hadn’t even considered.

They can go out the front door of their current house, turn around, look at the house and say, “this is jus what we’ve been looking for” and go back inside.

We moved into a fixer-upper and since I’m pretty handy and get bored with nothing to do, I didn’t think it was an issue. Then I made a list of what needs to be done and what improvements I’d like to make. it’s so long that it’s intimidating. Now I need to revise that to list only what needs to be done.

They have just what they want waiting for them at home.

Anticipating our last move, my husband made a chart – must have, would be nice to have, ok, don’t want, absolutely not. We each made a list of wants & he plugged them in. When we met with a realtor, gave him a copy so we didn’t get shown a bunch of stuff we wouldn’t want.Went back the next day after we were shown a bunch To review a couple & were told about one that was high on the list – it’s sale had fallen through a couple of times. Due to water in the crawl space (by neighbors walking). Happened then to stop at another house (because they had the kind of dogs that we were thinking of getting) and chatted with the owner. He said to look in Star, because you can get more ‘bang for your buck’. We hadn’t considered Star, because when my husband was growing up in Boise, Star was ‘too far to hunt ducks’. We found the model home, met all our criteria and a good price – met up with our realtor & bought it. Moved in 6 months later & got the dogs 2 years after that.

Why don’t the just admit they don’t really want to move?

sadly I’ve met too many people who finally got their retirement home or RV or Boat put together and ready to enjoy, when one of the spouses get sick and / or die.

Too long drawn out, not as much fun to read anymore…just do it or don’t…but my vote is do, find a little cottage by the sea nearby.

Renovate? I thought this was an empty lot? They could have something built to their specifications…
