Direct and to the point. Apparently, Luddie is a cat of few words but profound thoughts.

That’s funny, I could have sworn the passage reads "There now abide faith, hope, and love ".

    I think they’re paraphrasing.

In the KJ version it is Charity. Charity is the pure love of Christ. It is the love that Christ has for the children of men and that the children of men should have for one another.

It says KJV. That’s the translation there, and the version that (as a Brit) I’m familiar with. Faith, Hope and Charity were also the nicknames of three Gloster Gladiator biplanes involved in the defense of Malta during WWI.

The Greek word is “agape” (a-ga-pey), I believe, which can be translated either way.

I Corinthians: “…faith, hope, and love.” Love is a translation of “agape” from koine Greek. There has been debate about the translation of agape into English for a very long time. I was taught that agape is most accurately translated as “acts of love.” Very similar to what Christians mean when they say that the evidence of the love of Christ is through an individual’s loving relation with and acts of love towards others in the world.

“Midnight on Christmas Eve” = is that in the very first moments of Christmas Eve, or at the very last moments (i.e. which midnight)?

No matter what your beliefs are, it’s a good thought. Charity or love, depending on your interpretation, is important.

I grew up on the KJV, but also enjoy reading the New King James, Holman Christian Standard, and English Standard Version. At the encouragement of a preacher friend, I try to read a different translation every year.

In conclusion: Give plenty of wet food to the animal shelter. And whatever you can give and is needed at any shelter like orphanage or womens refuge and maybe your neighbors in need, too.

I understand, end appreciate the sentiment, but, honestly, there are A LOT of people out there who had better hope and pray that animals never gain the gift of speech. Too many of us are guilty of casual, thoughtless, or even deliberate, abuse and violence. The stories that “dumb” animals would tell, if they had the chance, would shame us all.
