“OK – who wants Puce? Dusty rose? Vermillion?” (then just hand the brushes out – kids don’t know fancy colors!)

There are times to let them decide, and time just doll them out.

Mom, you have to assign colors.

They do not appear to have any teeth. Are these gum brushes?

Just pass them out and they can trade with each other for their favorite color.

I appreciate that Hammie doesn’t think that purple is too girly for him!

Wren is talking!

Excellent try, Wanda, but this is a no-win situation for you. You have a comically competitive set of offspring, so no matter what you do, they will strive to make sure they are happier than the others. ;-)

Let them each pick their own, starting with Wren.

Easy solution, just have them close their eyes and reach for a toothbrush of the group being held out. They get the one they pull out. Sort of like drawing straws.

Wren is wearing purple, give her that toothbrush. Give Zoe the pink one, it matches her nightgown. Give Hammie the yellow one, it’s the only one left.

This and Adam@Home will forever be a reminder why having children is never a good idea.

If they’ll all be equally happy with any color, this shouldn’t be too hard.

Wanda, have you never heard of the RHIP (Rank Has It’s Privileges) principle. Zoe is the oldest so she chooses first, then Hammie and Zoe gets what is left over. Simple.

A learning curve for Wanda, Wren is no doubt mimicking her siblings

“Zoe, which color would you like me to give to Hammie? ….. Hammie, would you like that color?”

Not just kids. I’ve had this problem with just two adults…including myself in that count.

Well that didn’t work. Time for a new strategy.

Just throw ’em up in air and let ’em scramble for it.

Do like they do in my dentist’s office after a checkup. Just put them all in bags and hand them out at random. I always end up with orange—my least favorite color.
