Umm … is “carded” an American expression? Cos I’ve no idea what it means.

Don’t tell Wanda, but a lot of stores ask for your ID when buying alcohol these days!

Wife and I were out to eat one time and the Server asked to see my ID when I ordered a beer to go with my dinner. I was 71 at the time, graying hair and nearly all white goatee beard and mustache. As I was removing my drivers license, I responded that she really made my day. Gave her a extra large tip.

Here in Nashville you can be 100 years old and still have to show an ID to buy booze.

We have to check the ID of anyone who appears to be under 50.

Should you be pleased or insulted when the clerk gives you a Senior Discount just by looking at you?

I lived in small town Iowa for a while. I was mid 50s and looked every bit of it. Still got my ID checked every time, by the same clerk I saw twice a week. And not a cursory glance to satisfy the boss, he looked at it like I had just turned 21 but looked 14.

My ignorant state legislators passed a law where ANYONE buying alcohol had to be carded. Fortunately, the furor from us old folk fumbling for our ID and from the young folks behind us in line who had to wait for us to finally find it got that law rescinded.

where I work by state law we have to card everyone who buys alcohol, tobacco products, lighters, and some medication. I always like to make my customers day by saying how they dont look the age thats on their ID

And as a counterpoint, as a sign I am getting older, for the first time in my life I was asked to show my identification to qualify for a “senior discount”. I came home and told my wife that I suddenly feel old.
